Wasting their life according to whom? You? Who are you to judge how they live their life? The only exception would be if they are doing something illegal in which case let the proper authorities sort it out.

Very difficult!
I’ve tried. So many people have had everything handed to them w/ so little effort that they see no reason for putting out any effort on anything. they jsut float thru life, taking only the easy tasks. I think it has to be started from childhood. If you get into reading bios of people, you’ll see a pattern. Those who were very poor when young… the kind of poor that they had to go to work after school to help support the family from a very young age… they develop a strong work ethic & achieve great things when they get older. We don’t see that type of inspiring poverty anymore. Everyone just goes on welfare.

It’s quite simple. Stop assuming that they are indeed wasting their life. Who are you to say what their purpose - if any - is?
For instance, I have a nephew with a super high IQ and extreme good looks. He could probably have been and done anything, yet he chose a blue collar job.
In some ways that IS disappointing; however, as long as he is happy that’s all that should matter.

Let go of whatever you think this person is supposed to do, and ask him what he wants out of life. If he says party forever or something that sounds frivolous, get him to plan a party. Event planners can make quite a bit of money. In other words, turn it into something valid. My daughter sat around reading for years, and now she’s a writer.

It usually takes a life-threatening event for most people to wake up and stop wasting their lives….
remember, the only time you can change another person is when they are in diapers!
Some people are quite content to waste their lives…although we don’t understand why.

find out what their strengths are. such as career wishes or hobbies or activities they miss. if its laziness it could be depression, fear, being unsure of themselves. what form of wasting their life do you mean? be a support system by talking to them. don’t push them. ask them if they want to talk. let them start the conversation. maybe they need someone to just listen to them. maybe even try to make them laugh to loosen up stress . good luck
